There's a story there, and we haven't even packed yet. I needed a Coker
bag, and after trying a few other options (and before finding out UDC
had a nice cheap one), we decided to do one locally, with a friend who
has a strong sewing machine.

Hers wasn't strong enough. So we went to another friend who had an even
stronger sewing machine. Hers wasn't strong enough either (for the nylon
webbing straps). So then we ended up buying a $2000 upholstery sewing
machine, which weighs a ton. Need any custom luggage? We will build to
suit. Don't worry, there are future plans for the machine as well. RTL
people will have the opportunity to see the bag I now have, which is
very nice but probably a little bigger than I need. Hope it gets there
intact!

Yeah I heard of a few stories of it going bad.

I have had really good luck with them over the past few months.

I even got the deluxe planes twice. These planes have power and USB
adapters in every seat, as well as a touch screen tv with a ridiculous
amount of programs and movies on it. Plus if you are lucky (or like me
you picked the right seats on purpose) they have an amazing amount of
leg room. I have had my best flights on Air Canada and Thai Airlines.

Yeah, I flew from
kelowna-vancouver-amsterdam-napoli-berlin-paris-vancouver all on
flights OTHER than Air Canada and the one 45 minute flight from
vancouver back to kelowna 3/5 bags were trashed. Also when i was
bringing my 36er from calgary to castlegar (1 hr flight) the box wasn't
in the best shape after. I only fly Air Canada when there is no other
option.

Flight report (rub THIS in your faces!):

Many bags were lost! On our arrival in Halifax we saw two Coker bags
sitting in the baggage office. These belonged to Team Flirt. They said
they were to be delivered to Annapolis Royal. I made it clear to them
that all Coker-shaped bags needed to go to Yarmouth at that point. They
arrived, along with my missing suitcase and several other peoples'
missing bags, that evening.

Not everybody got their bags so easily though. Totally Doable was
missing four bags total, and only got all their unicycles on Tuesday
night, I think. Dave White let them borrow his second Schlumpf 29", the
one I used on much of Thursday and Friday.

These bags were lost by various airlines. Methinks the airlines are
cutting down on personnel to help pay for fuel, and it's costing us in
hassles. The plane was very nice though, with TVs in the seat backs,
and a choice of many movies or TV shows! Hence less sleep than I should
have gotten, a situation I never caught up on for the whole trip.

But it was not all smooth sailing on the way to Halifax. When entering
a country, usually you have to retrieve your bags and pass through
customs. Expedia had not left us a huge amount of time for this, and
our plane was late arriving in Vancouver. The flight attendant assured
us this should not be a problem. Very few people in customs at that
time of day (true) and easy re-check of bags just outside of customs
(false). No, that area was under construction. At the "advice" of an
Air Canada employee, we RAN the length of the (large) Vancouver airport
with our luggage on a Smart Cart, while smart people got out of the way.
We barely made it onto our connecting flight. We were very lucky to
arrive in Halifax on Sunday morning at all!

On the trip home, many people ran afoul of bad weather in the midwest,
that stopped many flights from leaving Halifax. We waited with a number
of Chicago-bound passengers, some of whom had been at the airport all
day, for our delayed flights to finally be allowed to head out. I still
don't know why our 5:30pm flight left before Tim Lee's flight that was
supposed to have left around noon!

Arriving quite late in Chicago, apparently Jamey and Bruce Dawson were
able to catch their connections but Jacquie and I were not. We spent
the night in a hotel, but United was kind enough to put us in row #1
for the 2-part flight the rest of the way home. Real silverware, white
linens, personal TV screens, not to mention *actual meals* on both
flights! :)

And our luggage made it home with us.

We got one of five bags when we flew in on United from Chicago; neither
of the unicycle bags. Thanks to Dave White, who loaned his unicycle,
and a bunch of other people who loaned helmet, gloves, seat post and
seat, I was able to race on Monday and Tuesday until the bags arrived
on Tuesday night.

Then, leaving on Continental from Halifax to Newark, they lost all of
our bags. All but one arrived after a day; as of today, a week later,
they still haven't found my unicycle bag.

If I find a reason to bring a unicycle to Nova Scotia again, I'm flying
to Portland, Maine and taking the ferry.
