I was recently diagnosed with Bell's Palsy and I would like
to know if there are certain massage techniques that can be
performed either by a therapist or myself to alleviate the
pain associated with this condition. Thanks in advance.

I had a client that used homeopathic medicine and it worked
wonders. Also a few essential oils can help. If you like a
list, let me know.

Yes, if you had a list, that would be absolutely great.

I am in the process of using osha root extract and a
concoction called "Facial Pain Drops"; it contains aconitum
napellus (4X), atropa belladonna (6X), salix alba (3X),
trigeminal nerve, bovine (16X, 30X), purified water and
alcohol. It has helped somewhat but for me, the jury is
still out on the use of dessicated animal organs. Any help
you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I have to make a comment on the variety of posts I've
been reading.

I am starting massage school in approximately 1-2 months.
The classes are 9 months long. Afterwards, I will start
giving massages in my home (the therapy room is being set-up
as we speak!).

The things that make me absolutely livid are first,
"sensual" massages (Tulsa is rampant with 'massage parlors,
not therapy studios), and draping.

About "sensual" massages. This is just thinly-veiled
prostitution. Plain and simple. It makes me sick that it is
under the guise of "massage". If someone wants THAT sort of
"massage", look up an escort service; in my opinion, it is
almost slanderous to refer to that as massage.

Now, draping. In everything I've gleaned from magazines,
manuals, the Internet and just speaking with people, a
massage is about working on muscles. I have received quite a
few massages and draping seems to interrupt the "flow" of
the massage. I realize that this is a personal opinion but
it just seems people are so caught-up in the Puritanical
ideals that were drilled into our heads growing up, they now
feel somewhat "ashamed" or "embarassed" to be nude. In all
the people I've spoken to before decideing on massage
therapy as a career, not one person entered this field just
wanting to touch people's breasts, buttocks, penises, or
vaginas. This is a terrible misconception by the general
public prevalent today but thankfully, is changing.
Therapists are there to work on muscles; the body as a whole
is just a barrier in getting to those muscles.

And lastly, I do realize that the comfort level of the
person getting worked on needs to be first and foremost.

Time to get off of my soapbox. That was my "rant" for 2004!

Small list..... Peppermint with helichrysum and/or
juniper.Rub on the area of the facial nerve, which is in
front and behind the ear and on areas of pain. Oils may be
diluted in a carrier oil before use. As with any essential
oil, use carefully and fully research each oil for
condraindications that may pertain to you.

Peppermint... use caution if you have high blood pressure.
Could cause senstitivity on the skin. Use with caution if
pregrant. Helichrysum....none Juniper....none

I also used lavender with my client too. More or less for
the inflamatory properties plus the benefit of being able to
relax the client, who is typically a bit stressed due to the
condition.
