Default How to remove...

A rusty seat-post from old mountain bike. Have repaired chain and adjusted derailleurs and
gears, but the seat post won't budge. I't rusted stiff into the frame. If I grip the seat and
attempt to use it to twist the post out, but it won't budge. In fact, the seat twists, but the
post doesn't move.

Any suggestions?

If one of these doesn't work it's time for a new frame.

This worked for me a few years ago , but I did this during the winter when it was freezing out
side and my Good bikes are kept inside the house .

After all else failed , I left the Liquid Wrench soaking in the post tube and took the bike
outside to sit in the bitter cold for about 15 minutes . This allowed the metals in the seat tube
and the seat post to contract . While the bike was still outside , I then took a small rubber
mallet and gently tapped the post on 4 sides near the saddle while gently twisting the saddle in
back and forth directions . The metal contratced ( shrunk ) enough on both surfaces in the cold
temps to allow the penetrating solvent to work into the rusted surfaces and free the post from
the tube . Dry Ice , placed in a small paper or cloth bag , tied where the post joins the tube
will work in warmer weather ( NOTE= DO NOT USE PLASTIC ! It becomes brittle with the cold
tempatures and will shatter like glass ) .
