Re: The Bay Area Ridge Trail

Dear Sir:

The Bay Area Ridge Trail project is very misguided! Aren't you happy that humans already
overrun and dominate 99% of the wildlife habitat that once existed in the Bay Area? Why do
you want to take more open space away from wildlife, and subject it to more "industrial
grade" recreation (mountain biking, horseback riding, etc.)???

You should be ashamed of yourselves! I know you are not. You are probably congratulating
yourselves on the wonderful work you are doing, providing more playgrounds for humans. But
wildlife, if they know how, are crying.

How about using your organization to do something worthwhile: buy up wildlife habitat, and
make it off-limits to people. Now there is a project worth donating to!

Sincerely,

Michael J. Vandeman, Ph.D.

P.S. Ridge tops and similar areas that are relatively inaccessible to people are for that reason
very important to wildlife. Think a little! Think about things from wildlife's point of view….
And why would I want to donate my hard-earned dollars to create yet another human playground,
when raw nature is far superior to anything that we can create?!

I think I know why this guy is so rotten: he can't ride. That's it - he can't ride a mountain bike.
He musta endo'd or puked after a long climb or, or, or I know - his buddies got tired of his whining
and dropped his punk ass then it started raining and he was lost and started crying. That's it he
can't ride! Sissy pants...Sissy pants...TeeHeeHee!

You should be ashamed to post a ~4 year old letter, that addresses a project that was more than 11
years old at the time you wrote the letter. Come on doc the Ridge Trail Project recieved federal
funding in 1988. The project is right in "your back yard" and you didn't find time to speak out
against it for 11 years. By the time you wrote your letter the trail was already ~210 miles long.
What took you so long?

My point, irrelevant or not, is that if you were "dedicated, diligent, well-prepared, tenacious, and
reliable," you would have spoken earlier.

But why didn't you speak earlier? You were in the Bay Area when the planning process began. Public
debate and hearings (Public access through private property along the Waterman gap area etc.) were
taking place almost a decade (1979) before Federal funding was aquired. Yet you couldn't find time
to speak out about your concerns until the project was more than half completed?

Have you noticed how Vandbloke has to keep putting "PS"'s at the end of his diatribes that he sends
to various unsuspecting soles? A PS was used when writing on paper to add comments after you had
signed it. Putting a PS on an email or a letter written on a word processor would indicate a lack of
planning and forethought by the writer. I think a PH.d (real or FAKE) should know better.

I do know better. A P.S. also gets more attention than a letter, so it's good to use a P.S. Sorry if
that is over your head.
