Default Nite Rider batteries

Does anyone know what types of cells Nite Rider uses in their battery packs. According to their
site, they are using 4-4.5Ah NiMhs, but I was wondering if they are just plain old Sanyo cells, or
perhaps their own proprietary thing?

A friend has an older Nite Rider light with a toasted battery (it was a NiCad pack*), and I'm trying
to figure it it'd be worth it to make a new pack for it. I can get four Sanyo 4.5Ah NiMh C-sized
batteries for about $28 (plus a few bucks to have the pack built up). Seems like it would be worth
it, assuming these batts would do the trick.

*(I have a charger I can use for a NiMh pack).

Old Nite Riders are NiCd. New NiteRiders are NiMH. You can probably do what you intend but the best
place to ask is on the bikecurrent mailinglist. Or just do a search on the list. I know this subject
has been covered there. http://www.topica.com/lists/bikecurrent/read

There's not much magic involved in NiteRider batteries - I'd suggest just replacing whatever type of
cells that it had with the same basic type. I did that with my ancient NR light - used off-the-shelf
cheapo NiCad C cells and it worked fine. If you use NiMh instead, just make sure the pack's voltage
is the same as the NiCad pack it replaces.
