Riding from Didcot

Riding from Didcot these last few days, a decent route
(thanks Daren Austin) past the scenic power station, up
towards Harwell village, across to East Hagbourne, Aston
Tirrold, and on to Streatley, Goring, Crays Pond.

I don't "do" training on the bike, but this is a lot like
interval training. Today I got to the top of one long hill
and found I was still on the middle ring, which was nice.

22.4 miles home, still a bit slow at 16.5mph, partly because
it's pretty much dark by the time I get to Crays Pond
which of course reduces the speed a bit. But mostly
because I'm horribly unfit at the moment.

Enjoying the ride, though, even on the stick bike (even
if the crosswinds are a bit much going along the top
from Cholsey).

And the fading light gives me a real incentive to get out of
the office. Or, in the case of this evening, the sunshine
gives me etc. etc :-)

Happy. happy. happy.

Eh? Horribly unfit compared to which world class athlete?
Sheesh, I was chuffed with a similar speed on my 2.5 mile
commute until I read your post!

If you want a slightly more 'interesting' start to the ride
you can go out from didcot station past the power station
into Milton. When you get into milton, just as you are about
to go over the railway to join the roundabout on the A34 you
can take a path on the right (then immediate left) along the
railway under the A34, turn right along the side of the A34
untill you reach the old mill stream then follow this into
Steventon Green. There are a number of nice pubs here and a
good bakery that does a line of exotic cheeses.

The path is useable in all weather though is probably nicest
in the summer. The hill out of Steventon shouldn't provide
any great difficulty to you.
