Regular Club Road Races
Hi

Am I the only cyclist in Sydney looking for regular weekend club road races? There seems to be a plethora of criteriums held each weekend but I need to find weekly road races of at least 80-100km in length.
If anyone knows where this can be done please let me know.

Criteriums are fun but they don't prepare you for big road races.

Cheers

You have no chance of finding races of that distance in Sydney. For starters the circuits must be closed off from cars, meaning you need marshalls and barriers or a closed offroad cct. The only time ul find the longer races is the longer opens races.
Most clubs as you say have only the shorter criterium style races as their road racing.

Thanks dude,
It was worth a try. But it's really frustrating to have to constantly turn up to Heffron Park to race for less than an hour on a dead flat course.
It is fast, tecnical and fun, I'll give it that but I want to try more challenging courses.

The best I've found is a 50km race at Calga.

And they wonder why we don't have many climbers or strongmen in this country!

I know what you mean, but im not complaining, any sight of a hill and i start going backwards lol.
You could try Eastern Creek racing or Penrith when they start on a sunday morning.I know they wont be longer distance races but the circuits are longer and faster.

Come out to Eastern Creek with the Waratahs. It's the best racing you'll get in NSW

What is the race distance?

Depends on your ability and the grade you race. A-F grades. It is a criterium format with racing up to 70 minutes taking into consideration the +2 laps.

However, there are 4 hills on the international car/bike raceway - more anaerobic than aerobic. Waratah now also use the service roads around the drag strip, which is flatter.

There is an Elite division for non masters (under 35). Non masters of lesser ability could be graded with the A-F masters. There is no master age qualification for women to race in the Waratah master's races. The under 35's (men) were granted a dispensation to race 'cos of the scarcity of road courses in Sydney due to the police restrictions. I believe this is only temporary so if you are under 35 (male) and would like to race you had better check with the Waratah web site to ensure the dispensation continues.
