Cushy racing shoe?

Dan Stumpus

I'm starting to get into shorter races after many years, and
I need some flats.

Is there such a thing as a lightweight racer with a soft
ride? Many years ago I hurt my knee, and running with
soft shoes on soft surfaces enabled it to heal. Ever
since I've worn soft shoes as a precaution to cut down on
the impact forces.

I wear orthotics which support my foot perfectly, so the
shoe doesn't have to do everything, just be light and soft.
Back in the 80's I used to race in Nike Mariah's.

I'm 5' 8", 150#

Thanks,

Dan

I run about 2/3 of my mileage in flats and have owned quite
a number of different models. A couple that come to mind
that have pretty good cushioning are the Adidas Supernova
Comp and the Fila Racer. Both are slightly heavier than a
typical flat but still a lot lighter than a training shoe.

I wear orthotics, 5' 10", 147lb, and race in Nike Air
Streaks. They have a small medial post and a nice soft ride.

Hi Dan,

I also ran in and loved the Nike Air Mariah circa the Mid
80's. I searched for a replacement pair and found the Nike
Air Streak series to be an acceptable substitute. I'm now
trying the Nike Zoom Elite and finding them cushy. The jury
is still out on whether I like them or not. But I suspect
you'll find them a bit heavy for racing shoes.

Thanks for your feedback, Terry, Andy, and Edward.

I'll check out the models you mentioned.

Regards,

Dan
