When I was 12 I could do 4 mile approx, at 5.45 mile
pace..Anyway, I gave up running, got a bit peeved off with
getting beat by lads too good for me, even though I was
county champ myself.....When I put my first training run in
at age 22, I did 9.27 for 3000 metres on a deserted track in
our town...within a week I was running 4.5 miles in 21.17,
so it goes to show that you never lose what you once were
good at.I only kept it up for a month, and was twice
pictured in our local newspaper, photo and all...BRAGGING
rights, but I am 36 now and can't run 200 metres, seriously,
it killed me when I tried....How should I get back in
training, re' what distance and how slow should I take
it..Last month I ran a mile (approx) in 10 min 25 secs, the
next day in 9 min 35 secs, then I stopped cos my legs
weren't having it!!...Am I too old to join PROPER races at
Club Level ??

If you're not trolling, you're a very talented runner.

You're still young enough to run pretty well. According to
the WAVA standards, you're not supposed to start slowing
down until you're 35. You might be a little slower in short
distances like a mile, but there should be hardly any
difference in distances 10k and up. WAVA correction factors
for age 37 are 0.97 for 1 mile (that is, you're supposed to
be 3% slower) and 0.99 for 10k (that is, only 1% slower). If
you train properly, you should have little trouble beating
your times as a 12 year old, and you could probably beat
your other times too..

Cheers,

Are you as regular as you used to be? Are your bowel
movements as productive as when you were younger? It is
important that we carry a minimum load during running, so
best make sure you are unloading properly.
