USPS: End of an era
View Full Version : USPS: End of an era
Well it looks like USPS will be history come the end
of the year.
But have you ever thought what would happen in the
improbable event thay EVERY sponsor independently decided to
call it quits?
it's an interesting hypothesis......

No it isn't. Get back on your medication.
Just for some perspective, this is the UCI listing of pro

errr, hypothetical? and actually rather dumbass too.
annoyingly yours,
app
USPS ends sponsorship....................It will be
interesting to see who picks up the sponsorship. They do
face a challenge since don't really have a rider to succeed
Lance. Hopefully US Postal will have a big enough budget to
pick up a big enough star.

Two years from now, what was Postal will likely be a good
Belgian classics team with Hincapie riding in support of
another team leader.

Belgian press says Berry Floor (belgian company and current
co-sponsor) will take over the entire team and will look for
a new co-sponsor. So team will not only have a belgian
structure like now, but really be a belgian team with hardly
any belgian riders :-)

Has anyone heard how big a company Berry Floor is.....??? I
personally have some doubts if they are big enough to
sponsor a rider like Lance. I would think US Postal would
look for a bigger sponsor.

And these doubts arise from?
On an objective level, the amount of money put into even
sponsoring a major pro squad really are not that large. I'd
say any medium- to large-sized company that wanted to do so
could swing the money as long as they have the will to do
it, a CEO who is nuts about cycling certainly would help in
this regard.
A quick google search turns up the info that the Berry Group
turned over 502 million Euro and employed over 2000 people.
Whether it would be worth it is an open question, but I
don't think it's out of the question for them to be title
sponsor for even St. Lance.
