Aren't the markings there to keep the road clear so that
there's somewhere to park?

Please keep conversations in the newsgroup so that all may
contribute and benefit.

That's a novel idea.

If at first you don't succeed... Skydiving is probably not
the sport for you.

He probably got it from a book.

Thanks for all your advice. I have followed none of it.
On Friday a petition letter went home to every child from a
group of parents anxious that they will lose their £70 per
annum school run subsidy. I raised serious objections to
this with the headteacher, and suggested the following
letter should go out with the petition letter:
==========
Dear Parents,
Blackheath Station Car Park
I would like to offer the following as an alternate view to
the objections raised by some at the removal of the annual
subsidy offered by Lewisham Taxpayers to parents at The
School who drive their children to school.
1. Walking or cycling to school is far safer than
driving. Cars kill 3000 people per year.
2. Walking or cycling is a healthy habit which will
benefit your child for the rest of their life.
3. Walking or cycling is a clean and renewable form of
transport.
4. You will still be able to drive; it is the School
Run Subsidy which will be removed.
5. Disabled badge holders will not be affected.
6. Fewer cars on the School Run will mean a better
environment for us all and an improved bus service.
I hope you will keep these points in mind before signing the
petition to keep the subsidy in place.
Kind regards,
The Headteacher
==========
The Headteacher would not let me send the letter home,
however, next Friday the headteacher will send out a letter
to all parents encouraging them to bring their children to
school by walking or cycling, and leave their cars at home.
I still think that the council would do better by offering a
£70 per annum subsidy to children who walk or cycle and by
withdrawing the £70 School Run subsidy.
As a governor, as well as a teacher, I may well bring this
matter up at our next meeting.
Good for you.
I am 54 and from Cork, Ireland.
I was copying old school photos recently and looking at
First Communion and Confirmation school photos (ages 7
and maybe 11), ALL the boys in each photo, were emaciated
by modern standards. Of course they all walked or cycled
to school.
