DISCOUNT DRUG PRICING
The ability to price-shop for prescription drugs online
is clearly
the most useful feature of the new Medicare discount
drug plan.
Before the federal government stepped in, discounted
drug prices
were considered an industry secret known only to the
health care
companies and the drug manufacturers. Now anyone can check
the
discount price of a drug within seconds. I
experimented with the
system at www.Medicare.gov by entering a few random
drug names and
looking the prices offered at pharmacies in my neighborhood.
Although my discount drug card from
www.ehealthdiscountplan.com is
meant for younger people rather than Medicare
beneficiaries, the
system was still useful. It is easy to get the range of
prevailing
prices of most drugs quickly and easily. I noticed that
the system
is still missing price data on some drugs but I presume more
information will be added in the future.
