Pro race, 99 starter, 49 finishers in the first stage?

This race must have been unbeleivably hard, to
dangerios to ride or they are all saving themselfs for
the Tour De France

Well it does look kind of hard. A long climb with pitches up
to 22%? Ouch. Doubtful any of them are going to TdF though.

Just a guess, but I would say that not all finishers are
listed, since 17th -49th place are all at 2:09 back- SOMEone
had to be dropped...

Also possible that they were pulling riders who were off the
back, though that's not very generous, pulling riders more
than 2:09 back in a 117 mile race. Unless the 50th place
rider was, like an hour back.

The Course was hard and I believe that by the time the main
field hit the finishing circuits there was less than 50 guys
in it, and I am assuming they stopped dropped riders beyond
that from entering the finishing circuits after the main
field got in to avoid any dangerous and confusing
conditions.

Also this year the race is scored on points, and points only
go 15 or 20 deep
depending on the stage so if you are out of the mix it makes
no difference if
you finish one out of the points or you dropped out at the
219k to go banner.

This friday evenings stage is being held on a short tight
crit course around the green in New Haven Ct., teams are
limited to putting only 4 guys on the start line.

It's on omnium rules, so riders can drop out of a stage and
still continue.
