I'm also a long distance cycle-tourist... but I'm male and 55. However, if you're interested in talking about routes across the United States, I'd be happy to share my maps and experiences with you.

I too am a "long distance cycle tourist", but unfortunately I am 65 years old and a MALE. However, if your "world tour" takes you into Canada, I might be able to assist you with "routes, climate information, wind directions, etc."
Have a great tour and as Yogi might have said, "remember that 90% of a good tour is 60% mental..........byfred

Trekker, tell us more. I would love to ride across the US (I am from Italy), but beyond a few websites of touring companies, do not know where to start. I would prefer starting on the West coast and riding East. What are the best seasons, and the routes that are preferred?

Thanks for any and all info!

I agree... Adventure Cycling has a great site. When I made my trip (from east to west that way I had the big hills after a whole lot of time on the bicycle and not at the beginning of my ride) I used a combination of their maps and my own routes depending on the places I wanted to see. I actually began to deviate from their maps when I discovered that previous cyclists had made a bad impression and I literally felt safer taking the road less traveled. But that was several years ago. Maybe the "share the road" campaigns have had their desired effect.
