New to Biking

Hey all,
I quit smoking a few weeks ago and feel so good I decided to get a bike and go all the way on health.
I went to a LBS and decided to spend $300-$400 on a new bike.
Of course I fell in love with a more expensive bike.
Im going back tommorow to tell them I want it.
Specialzed Hardrock comp (disc) asking $460.00(500 w/tax)
Its white and I rode it around the block.
I read a million reviews and there all good except for the pedels.
I basically decided to ride back and forth to work(street)
Will it be a mistake to get this bike?
Also I was wondering if I will be able to upgrade this bike.I love rims without spokes(like mag).
Also thinking of adding white fenders.

LOL.....it was just a joke.I really do want a rear fender cause I love riding in the rain.Altough my bike shop showed me a pretty cool rain coat to prtect my back.
Any way does anyone have a opinion on my bike choice?
