Hiking

So my wife and I went hiking in the Adirondacks last week
for vacation. Since I was still recovering from an injury
all I could do is hike and bike while we were out there.

The thing that surprised me was how fast we went compared to
other people. We did a 15 mile hike up ~3500 feet of
elevation that most people took 8-10hours to do. We did it
in 6:20 with a 20min lunch. When we told people how fast we
went, their jaws dropped.

I think the effects of long distance training really carry
over to many sports. The thing I noticed is that we could
just keep hiking for over an hour before we took a break. We
could also scramble up most rocks faster than anyone else.

It was just interesting to see how much fitness carries over
to other sports.

i agree. hiking definitely helps your leg strength.

on the other hand, i've noticed that longer hikes or multi-
day backpacking hikes definitely seem to slow down the leg
turnover when you go running afterwards.
