What are the High school prerequisites for 1st year
University pre med?

Do you need your grade 12 Bio Chem AND phys? or just Bio and
Chem? Can you get in with just your grade 11 in physics?

It doesn't really matter, if it is here in the west where
you will study,, especially in Canada, then you could
probably have some Asian students, international students
studying with you, they will do circles around you anyway.
They will most likely separate them from the domestic
trained student to avoid embarrassment. I see this all day
long. I work at a university and this is what we are facing
now. Our domestic schools have failed to produce a product
that is ready for the university levels, this is reducing
the loads and education being offered by the universities.
Ever wonder why everyone today seems to be graduating with
honors but still not having skills required for the work
force. This might explain the failing health system here in
Canada. I mean miserably failing health care system and it
is no joke. As much as I enjoy teaching, learning from the
Asian international students, I always advise them to finish
their masters or complete education over there where they
will be far better trained. But they need a year or two here
in the west to learn English and hopefully find employment
because remuneration is far better here in the west.

My advice to you would be to repeat say grades 11 & 12 and I
understand you no longer have 13. That is a shame. Do not
rely on your highschool to properly train you, you must
spend countless hours (more than at highschool) per week
studying, researching, training. You may possibly compete
with the obviously much more smarter (proven) dedicated and
respectful students but you will have to work so much
harder,,, so much,, and you can thank your Ontario or
Canadian education system for this and the medical system is
also in shambles. You may get yourself a good job here in
Canada at our hospitals or schools,,, but the better
qualified and more knowledgeable medical professionals will
migrate to the states for more pay, market driven pay. Same
as everyone in Canada who require better health care or life
saving situations will also leave Canada and pay out of
pocket for having their lives saved or prolonged. It is
really a shame, I see it happen all day long.

Please take my advice, the future looks difficult for you.

Personally, I would go with just Physics, which tends to be
more fun at the high school level than bio or chem.

You don't need any high school science classes. If you
take high school sciences, then in university you might
feel pressured to enter the "honors" classes, in which
you will score a lower grade, and ruin your chances of
getting accepted. It is much better to be a top student
in the regular class, than to be an average student in
the top class.

The only prerequisites are in math (which is needed for
physics and chemistry.)

Good math teachers are rare in high school, but if you have
a good math teacher, get as many of the prerequisites that
you can for university Calculus.

In college, don't major in any science. Major in something
that you like, and that will make you an interesting, well-
rounded, educated person.

But don't take my word for it. Make an appointment with the
pre-med advisor at the university.

A different strategy that may have longer term benefits
would be to master them all, it is easy. Your right about
the right teachers here in the west, or having a good
teacher helps. But you cannot rely on that at all, do it
yourself, bite your tonge about their lazyness and learn to
like the subjects, learn them, and master them. Because once
again, your competition coming from overseas will already
have mastered as much knowledge of each, they will
accademically advance ahead of you. Their training is
superior. Learn all of those sciences, they are all related,
master them all.

Once again, your underachieving, you will be looked over
should you be in front of am employer with a list of
candidates. Give up the parties for a while, dedicate the
next 5 years to your family and learning then dating then
working,,, etc,,, But try to do all and aim for that 100%
target all the time

Good point about the appointment, the rest didn't make
sense,,, But make an appointment with everyone you can at
the university, if you are an international student, you
would be spending a lot of money, you spend a few weeks
visiting all the teachers, directors of the programs and get
a feel, look at the learning environments, look for
modernization. Most university learning environments
(classrooms) should be set up with each desk having internet
connections and power for the laptops, and of course
powerpoint projectors and white board etc etc. Some brag
their classroom sizes never exceed say 20 students, look for
those ones. And their honors roll, well ask how many
students were on last year's honor roll as that could mean
their giving away or just selling their degrees. Make them
earn your money....

Good luck
