Is there information about how the route of the Waterloo-
Wasquehal stage will be? Any confirmation about the old
rumour that it will include some cobbled sections?

Yes. It's widely published.

The itinerary shows two sections of pave, 2800m at Erre,
1100m at Gruson.

Is this the one known as "Le Carrefour de l'Arbre"?

How far are they from the end of the stage?

No, the Gruson section is the one known as "Le Carrefour de
l'Arbre." Here's what the itinerary says:

Dist ToGo 140 70 D13 Helesmes 146 64 Beginning of Erre pave
sector (2800m) 149 61 Wandignies-Hamage (D130 - D81) [...]
180 30 Cysoing (D955 - D90) 184 26 D90 Carrefour de l'Arbre
(D90 - D94) 184 26 Beginning of Gruson pave sector (1100m)

I don't have it online so I don't know where you'd find it.
But why would you need the detailed itinerary to book
hotels? The tour starts in 3 weeks. One might say that you
oughta be booking.

I poured over 1:100,000 IGN maps and videos for a year
getting ready a bike trip this past April to Flanders and
northern France... The Erre sector is almost certainly
what is normally called the Hornaing section (or at least
part of it) from Paris-Roubaix. This is the famous section
where you see a large grain silo (maybe water) right next
to the riders.

The Carrefour (crossroads) de l'Arbre section from Paris-
Roubaix ends at the famed cafe. There is 100 m of asphalt on
the D90 before starting the Gruson section. Judging by the
itinerary listed below, the stage will use the Gruson
section is the same as used in Paris-Roubaix.

The Friday before this year's PR was unequivocally the most
memorable ride I ever did (31 km of pave in 140 km). -Mike

I can tell u about the passage in Geraardsbergen. Or you can
find out yourself on
http://www.geraardsbergen.be/nieuws.php?id=18

In short: the peloton enter Geraardsbergen as in the Ronde
van Vlaanderen. Does the climb of "The Vesten" (300m cobles
at about 8-9%) but does not turn right to climb the actual
"Muur". Instead they follow the left and then the right en
climb the last part (200m asphalt at about 12%) of the
"Kloosterstraat" which was the climb before the actual
"Muur" until a few years ago. Then they make a big local
tour around Geraardsbergen and leave the city.

because i want to stay in some towns where the tour passes,
not necessarily where it starts or finishes.

because i'm also trying to plan out how to drive parallel to
the race and see it pass several times during a day.

so does anyone know where the detailed itinerary is ONLINE?

Holy cow. This is just a guess, but I'm getting the feeling
that you like to plan out your vacations.

Gee. Where's the fun in that? Rewarding and character
building experiences you'll miss out on: Roaming the streets
at night looking for an inn with a room, trying to get a
seat on a packed train, trying to get some food in a place
that's still open after you dump your junk in a seedy hovel
even Div III cycling teams wouldn't go near, getting up at
0300 to secure your spot along a decisive spot, only to find
your dump of a hotel doesn't offer complimentary continental
breakfast, so you have to scurry around to find eats and
then find some guy named Senft in a weird costume has
blocked your perfect view with some huge monstrosity he
allegest to be a bicycle, realizing your colon and bladder
will mutually fail to hold back the forces of nature 2
minutes before the peloton arrives and the nearest loo or
cover is 250 metres away... Should just show up at
Dronkert's and watch it on telly.

I predict this is when Tyler will fall down the first time
in the tour.

But not if you're a bike messenger. Besides, we're devoid of
sport on Belgian tv for the summer, my favourite station.
(they threw all sport behind the decoder "to make room"..).

Based upon Tyler's history in these things, he needs to
fall at least an average of once per week to place at
least second.

Race Falls Placing ---------- ----- ------- 2004 CdDL 1 2
2003 TdF 1 4 2002 GdI 3 2

This is a somewhat worrying trend. Maybe he's like the Hulk,
he needs a little road rash to get properly motivated or
something.
