How to detox my body...
View Full Version : How to detox my body...
About a month ago, I used to smoke a pack of cigarette a
day, and drink a bottle of wine every 2 days, and eat junk
food. Yep, I used to be a total wreck!
Since last month, I stopped smoking and drinking. I've been
running 2 miles a day Monday through Friday. How can I detox
my body? Once I get rid of toxins in my body, how often
should I detox my body to lead a healthy life?
Thanks...
Go to the 'enema nurse', for a few hundred an hour she'll
thoroughly clean you out. All your pipes will be drained
when she gets done with you.

Congratulations on your new wellness program. From
www.drweil.com:
(Published 05/18/2001) First of all, let me say that the
body does a pretty good job of cleansing and purifying
itself, so overall you're better off making sure your
physical resources are in good working order. If you stop
putting toxins - junk foods, drugs, chemicals - into your
body and focus on good nutrition, regular exercise, and
other healthy habits, you won't feel the need to detoxify.
However, if you want to go through a weekend cleansing
process as a ritual to mark the beginning of a healthier
lifestyle, you might choose a "juice fast" plus some
powdered psyllium seed husks to give your intestines plenty
of bulk. Use a tablespoon of the powder stirred into a big
glass of water followed by another glass of water. Do this
once a day, preferably in the morning. You can get psyllium
at health food stores. While you're fasting, take 100 mg of
vitamin C twice a day, but skip your other supplements.
Drink at least four 8- to 12-ounce glasses of juice each day
of your fast plus at least four 8-ounce glasses of water a
day. You can also drink some unsweetened herbal tea. Prepare
the juice yourself and use only organically grown fruits and
vegetables to avoid pesticides and other additives and to
maximize taste. Experiment with different combinations - my
favorite is a mixture of apple, carrot, and lemon juice.
If you can't make your own juices, look for natural ones -
those without added sugar - at a health food store. You
might want to dilute them to taste with water. At the end of
your fast, take it easy with solid foods. Start by eating
small amounts of light, plain foods -s ome fruit, perhaps.
Gobbling down heavy food to celebrate the end of your fast
can upset your stomach.
I'm often asked about colonic irrigation as a means of
"purification." This is totally unnecessary. The entire
lining of the colon sloughs off and is regenerated every
day. The best way to care for the colon is to let its own
natural physiological actions keep it clean and in good
working order. You can help by eating a high-fiber diet,
drinking plenty of water, and exercising to help move your
bowels regularly.
What I do recommend as an addition to your fast is
sitting in a steam bath or sauna once or twice a day to
help the body eliminate unwanted materials through
sweating. Just be sure to drink extra water when you try
this cleansing regimen.

You want to undo a lifetime's abuse with a quick fix? Forget
the hype, it can't be done.
Tim
WHERE? WHERE?

I think that 'Detoxing' is a myth created to sell people
very expensive herbal snake oil. Keep exercising. Keep
eating right. Simple.

I'd say its a valid point. But I don't remember the original
poster saying he was looking for a quick fix.
I'm not a doctor and I don't know specifics about how the
body detoxifies itself, or special treatments to do so.
But, myself a good eating plan, exercise, and proper rest
have made me feel very healthy. I think the key is being
consistent, and not overtraining.
If you are getting healthier I beleive your own body will
tell you. If you're engery levels are getting better, mental
alertness sharper .. those are signs your on the right
track. I'd pay careful attention to your own body, and how
it reacts to your new training and lifestyle. Just follow a
moderate path, and results should come in time.
still, i'm not a doctor but just my experience. i'd
recommend seeing a doctor before starting training if you
haven't already, e.g. a physical exam
The fact is... every living thing on earth has toxins stored
in it's cells... Dioxins, PCB's, and other poisons... and
there is no way to remove those compounds from your body.
Those are what I call toxins. If you are just talking about
alcohol, nicotine, etc... just eat right and exercise.
Personally, I think those 'detox' kits you can buy at
'health food stores' are a nothing more than a scam.

By golly there is intelligent life down here.
You were a wreck until you started jogging..........THEN you
became a total wreck.
I don't remember asking "how can I undo lifetime's abuse
with a quick fix?" I just wanted to know how to detox my
body. That's all. Your misinterpretation does nothing but
just derails my question.
I know that what is already done can't be undone. What I
want to do is to dispose of the remnants of the toxins in my
body. Even though you stop smoking or drinking that doesn't
mean the toxins leave your body.
Thanks for your response though!
To be fair to those who responded, it is a rather vauge
question... but I think the answer is that you cannot
'dispose of the remnants' and anything which claims it can
is most likely a scam. Just keep doing what you're doing.
Your lungs and liver will clear up on their own over the
course of years of healthy living.
