Hello, I have always wondered in a pro race, big tours and
others, if the course road is "swept" of road derbis before
the race start? Rocks, glass, and such. Or do the riders
just have to keep a watchful eye out for anything in the
path during the race. Rick in Tennessee

The towns and villages on the Tour Itinerary usually spif up
their streets so that the riders will not encounter anything
untoward, and also to look good on TV.

Outside the towns and villages no work is done apart from
making sure that the route is at least reasonably
negotiable.

The mountain passes in the Pyrenees always seem to be given
a good repair/cleaning job before the Tour comes through.
They are much rougher after the winter ice and snow breaks
up the surfaces... All the best Dan Gregory
