OT: desire (of bike)

Since 2001, over 90,000 cyclist's have joined Cycling Forums to discuss topics from general cycling to equipment, training, racing and travel or vacation destinations (especially in europe during the tour de france). We also feature an great deals in our online store, 100's of articles, classifieds and product reviews.

I'm looking for an old coaster-brake bike; I figure the kind
you can get at a garage sale for $15-25. In the meantime,
though, all these distractions ...

At the end of a Boulder garage sale, I got an old touring
bike (Nashbar Toure Alpha 5000?) for free. It's worth every
cent and it's missing the front wheel, though the original
owner said it "ought to be around here somewhere" and is
looking for it. So that's sitting in my garage. I really
hope she does find the wheel; that would make life easier.
The rear wheel has grass and whatnot all wrapped around the
axle; definitely a handyman's special. I figure I can learn
a bit about bikes fixing it up.

Today, I noticed that a second-hand store has moved in
across the street from work. There's a white bike there
with weird under-the-handlebars brakes and grip shifters
for $25. Again, it's not what I'm looking for ... but ...
it's awfully tempting. And at least it would be
immediately useful.

There used to bbe an old guy in Cortez with a whole city
block of old bikes. The pawn shops here used to go down
there to stock up for the college crowd. I went by there
once probably eight years ago. If you ever find yourself
around that area it might be worth seeing if that place is
still there.

One more tip: I got mine (in sorry shape) for $5 at a police
auction. I put $50 into it an now it's a sweet ride. Look
for horizontal dropouts if you want to have coaster brakes.
Mine had cantis and gears when I got it but I got a new
coaster brake/SS rear wheel and the dropouts made that easy
to deal with.

Thanks, Matt. I just checked mapquest and it reported that
that's an 8 hour drive ... but if I'm ever in the area ...
