View Full Version : 2 miles in 8 minutes?

Lee Carkenord

Has anyone been officially recognized as having run 3 miles in 12:00 or less?

How about 2 miles in 8:00 or less?

Thank you...... Lee Carkenord

Well, you can't say "No" for sure. Someone might have done
it somewhere, sometime ("Og chased by saber tooth tiger. Og
run fast!"). But I think you can safely say that no one has
ever done it under conditions where the time and distance
were accurately verified and the results made available to
the public :-)

Can we get some of those "scientists" who said it was
physically impossible for a human to run a mile under 4
minutes to say the same thing about 2 miles in 8 minutes?

The 2-mile is not often run. Daniel Komen's 3000m outdoor
record (7:20) is faster than a 4 minute mile pace (7:27)

For 5k, you'd need a 12:25.64 or better to be on 4:00 pace.
So they need to shave off a second per lap from the current
world record (12:37.35) to do this.

Cheers,

I suspect 5k at a sub 4 pace will happen first. 2 miles in 8
minutes would already be broken by now if anyone cared.

If a world class 5k wasn't evenly split, it's possible for
the last 2 miles of the distance to have been run at near
4:00 min/mile pace.

IMHO. YMMV.

Any good resources for these odd types of records? I had
trouble finding anything official for a 3-mile world record.

Thanks for the links

After checking the sites:

Men's 2 mile record - 7:58.61 Daniel Komen Men's 3 mile
record - is this documented anywhere? Maybe I could be the
record holder.

Also, is there a women's 2 or 3 mile world record?
