No. Just run consistently and you'll lose weight.

Go to a gym and do some workouts. They do not have to be
real strenuous, just enough to add some muscle. You will
lose weight faster with muscle instead of fat and leg work
will even help you run up hills faster.

I tried for a long time to loose weight and when I hit the
gym, the 5 lbs I was trying to loose came off and I could
run up short hills seconds faster.

You mileage may vary.

100% agree. If you are just beginning the key is to develop
the exercise habit, make it a regular part of your week.
Starting slow is a good idea for many reasons mainly
because it reduces your discomfort. Do not worry about
anything more than getting out the door for 20 to 60min per
day, 3 to 5x per week.

In regards to weight loss and running, the distance of your
jogs is far more important than the speed. If I read
correctly you are running from 7.5 to 10 miles per week.
This level of exercise will burn roughly 750 to a 1000
additional calories per week.

At such a relatively low volume of running (and it may be
all your body can handle at this point) reducing the number
of calories you eat each day is the most important thing you
can do to lose weight. If you reduce your food intake by
about 350 calories per day and continue with your jogging,
you can expect to lose about one pound per week and reach
your goal in about 3 months. At your size and recently
increased activity level, I would not advice reducing
calorie intake much more than 350 per day.

Some options for faster weight lose are: 1)Resistance
training to increase the rate at which you expend calories
throughout the day, and/or
2)Performing a lower impact cardiovascular activity
(walking, cycling, etc.) on the days you do not run.

Best of luck, Matthew

My advice is to start using spell checker.

Running by itself won't take any weight off you unless you
run upwards of 25 miles per week (or so I read in RW).
Running, combined with a low-fat, low-cal diet, will help
you lose weight. I'm running less than 20 miles/week right
now, but I've lost 8 lbs. in the last month, just by being
careful about what, and how much, I eat. BTW, I think you
want to lose weight, not loose it.

Speed is not important. Walk or run fast enough to start
breathing harder and work up a sweat. But not so hard that
you hate it. Instead at whatever pace it becomes "fun".
Eventually you need to cover 10-20 miles a week for the
exercise to have the best effect. But take as many months as
necesary to get up to that level. Some will reach that in
one month, others in ten months.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Well, there's
the problem right there.
