menstrual cycle explanation sought
View Full Version : menstrual cycle explanation sought
I am looking for a web site where I can download or view the
explanation of a woman's menstrual cycle in order to explain
it to children. Can anyone point me to such a resource
please? A graphic illustration such as a Macromedia Flash
presentation would be preferred I think.

It's pretty simple. The lining of the uterus is built up
once a month in order to make it ready to receive a
fertilized egg. Once the build-up is complete, an egg (ovum)
is released from the woman's ovaries. If this egg is
fertilized (by sperm from a man), then it will usually
implant itself in the uterus and pregnancy will begin. If it
is not fertilized, after a few days the uterine lining will
degenerate and slough away, producing the characteristic
menstrual flow. Then the cycle repeats. The visible
menstrual flow that girls and women see and think of as
their "periods" is actually the end of the cycle, not the
beginning.
