View Full Version : breathing through ?
Hi ,
There is some contradicion in breathing techniques in the
literatures.
Whether one should breathe through the nose or the mouth
while running and which one would help in running a longer
distance ?
Kindly reply , Sameer.

Hi Sameer- pick whatever works best for you. There's no
rules regarding how to breathe when running, aside from
making sure you use your diaphragm properly; meaning to use
your belly - don't heave your upper chest in and out. It's
similar to proper singing technique if you have ever taken
vocal lessons. I like taking a breath every 3 steps - this
is pretty standard and works well for most people.

What literature? Unless you have nostrils like a horse, I
can't see the advantage to breathing only through the nose.

Don't worry about this too much -- just breathe. You're
likely to find it awfully hard to get enough air in through
your nose when you're running quickly, but there's no harm
in doing so if you can.

In my personal opinion, I have tried inhaling thru my nose
and exhaling thru my mouth, I noticed this way, to much air
get to my lungs and gets me tired quickly, so now I just
breath thru my nose %100 when I go jogging. I live in
Arizona, and its starting to get hot here, so we always have
to A/C on, I think that's the reason my nose is often
stuffy, but I recently bought "breath right", I only use
this when im jogging, works wonders, can breath
%100
