Dearest pals of rfc: one, what does FA stand for, and two,
what to do about these ads for ebay offerings. Does ebay (if
told) do anything about people who do this? It is an
emerging habit on more than one newsgroup I read. blacksalt

Report this fool and crap like this might stop. I think
Prodigy and ebay might pull his account. If enough
people complain.

Didn't think everyone would freak out over a $5.99 Auction.
Sorry Jena

Of course not. They're not responsible for it.

I was once told by e-Bay that they would take action (what
kind of action, I do not know) against those who posted
advertisements to non-commercial newsgroups. That was a
couple of years ago, though, so I do not know if they still
do. There's no harm in trying--though any complaints must be
filed on-line, not via e-mail.

I'm not sure what FA means. Haven't yet figured it out.

How many people currently have products for sale on e-bay?
Think about what this (or any non-commercial) newsgroup
would be like if even a small percentage of those folks
decided to advertise their wares here. We don't like it, we
don want it, and it's rude (and against most ISP's policies
as well). Find other less-intrusive ways of advertising
your products.

FA stands for "For Auction".

It was, at least at one time, against eBay policies to
post links in non-commercial/forsale Usenet groups. I
don't know if they
do/did enforce it.

Report them to eBay and see if the auction ends early.

Seems if you attempt to have their ip provider take action
they go away with apologies.

If you just ask nicely they will go away also.

You may, but unfortunately many "I didn't know" people DO
know and did it anyway. As for "mean" and "freak out", no
one has shown up at your doorstep and broken your knees.
Hence my love of USENET. If you stick around and post
helpful or interesting posts, or even just inoffensive ones,
you actually will be forgiven. blacksalt once a newbie, too.
ObFood (and here JP is one great hint...on OT posts, do put
in a "obligatory food reference"....I often put a little
tale in that wouldn't make a post of its own, but nontheless
is foodie): Thai peanut sauce, thinned with water and
sweetened with honey makes incredible dressing for a mesclun
and tomato salad. Make it medium hot only.
