dumb story of the tdf from my house
View Full Version : dumb story of the tdf from my house
early sunday morning, i got up to take care of my dogs while
my boyfriend was sleeping. when i opened the pantry to feed
them, i found that ants had discovered the dog food, and
there were ants swarming everywhere- a black moving tide.
not being at my best in the morning, i screamed and screamed
at the top of my lungs.
so my bf is woken from a deep sleep by my screaming. what
does he think would make me screech like that in the
early hours of sunday? loss of a limb? dead body in the
yard? nope. from the bedroom he asks, concerned, "did
LANCE fall down???"
just a few years ago he complained about how the bike
racing season was a trial to him, and now at the sound of
my distress he's worried about LANCE and not me. i hope you
are happy :)

EWWWW! We have ants and sometimes I'll find a big swarm of
them. Last night, I found some kind of huge milliipede on
the wall, but didn't scream because my boyfriend was asleep.
I just went EWWWW silently and killed it with my flipflop.
When I find a big swarm of ants, I get the dirt devil and
suck them up!
The only time I screamed in the morning was when I got up
the morning of an exam, after a horrible night's sleep, due
to anxiety. And there was a dead mouse right in the middle
of the living room floor. It was like 6 am and I too am not
a morning person, so I went YAAAAAA! That woke Matt up. We'd
been having a mouse problem for some time and I think the
building management had gotten complaints and put down some
poison. My neighbor also found a dead mouse. I was just glad
that it died out in the open and not in a closet or some
place hidden!

Get some Terro and that will be the end of the ants for
good.

Good to know he has his priorites straight......

we may have to do something about them in the future, but
right now they really aren't doing anything to bother us as
long as we don't leave ant food around. i did squish some on
sunday, but i try to keep that to a minimum. (we also have
paper wasps living under our house's eaves that we are
reluctant to destroy.) thanks though,

Tarro is for sweet eating ants and the good news is the
little black ants are sweet eating and in fact many of the
bigger black ants are sweet eating but then some others are
not. I found that out here there are many different shapes
and sizes in the Sierras. Terro has borax in it I believe
and they take it back to the nest and it kills the queen and
all the children.
End of story, end of ants!

Ants, once they've found food and you take it away,
will explore your entire house looking for more. Worse,
they may be living in the boards of your house. Best to
wipe them out.
Simple solution I've used is mix 1 part borax to 1 part
sugar and add water to make a slurry. Place it where pets
won't be able to get to
it. Replace as needed. Takes care of ants in about one
week.

our house pretty much is one big ant colony. they either
live in the walls or underneath the house in the crawl
space, but you can watch a steady stream of them going in
and out from several locations around the foundation of the
house. inside we only see the little wandering searchers,
unless they find food.
my boyfriend said that they wouldn't damage the structure of
the house (like carpenter ants do) so we've left them alone.
but is he so fixated on LANCE that i can't trust his
judgment on anything else now? i don't mind leaving them be,
but if it's going to turn into a $50000 fiasco 5 years from
now, i'd be ok with baiting them :(

Just the same, judging from your description Heather, you
might want to have the place scoped out for termites. Lots
of pest control people like Orkin or Western will do a free
-- count 'em, free -- inspection, then try to sell you
"preventative" maintenance when they don't find anything.
You can always get a second O if they say they find a live
infestation.

I was at the car shop today having my car fixed at the big
auto center and I went into the waiting room to sit a spell
and watch the Tour. I picked up a copy of SI to check out
for a minute because Lance was on the front cover. I sit
down and asked the only person in the room, a middle aged
blonde if I could switch the TV channel to watch the Tour.
She said no I couldn't as she was watching some soap crap or
something, and she inquired why. I showed her the photo of
Lance on the cover and she said she didn't know him. I
further preceeded to tell her about Lance being a great
cyclist and winning all the tours and asked her if she had
seen the commericals. She again stated she had no idea who
Lance was. That just blew my mind. I can't believe she
didn't know who he was since she looked like the average
city home body who of at least would of seen him in
commericals and maybe heard about the cancer comeback kid,
but I guess not. But then again I have ran into people who
didn't know who Jane Pauley and Diane Sawyer were either.
BTW, Jane Pauley was hired by my uncle at NBC years ago.
Small world.

Welcome to the real world. Not everyone can have the

Just kidding.

I have seen a number of movie stars in Santa Barbara,
especially in the art museum. We used to bike ride by Jane
Fonda and Reagan ranch which is near Gaviota. They don't
impress me much. One time while at Big Sur art gallery,
suit and asked me if the free coffee was good. I didn't
recognize her, a friend told me who she was. They are not as
big in real life as you think.
Not a dig on Reagan though, I did prosper under Reaganomics.

Oh come on, you have to be worse then a conehead or be the
Amish to not know who Lance is here in the states. He is all
over the place on TV with commericals. Those commericals do
reach the masses.

What if O.J. were on the cover? You would know him, and I
doubt he's your hero.

That doesn't mean a thing. He does a Subaru commercial,
where his name is never used in the commercial and I
guarantee you that only one in a thousand people, outside
the sport of cycling in some form, will even be able to tell
you who it was. Most would just see a guy with short hair,
saying something about the car and then getting in it. Those
999 viewers wouldn't recognize him from Adam. Just because
he's the biggest name in cycling right now doesn't amount to
much in the "real" world.

Maybe a cat left it for you. When cats like you, they will
kill little animals and leave them out for you to enjoy for
yourself. Some rodent at 6 inthe morning doesn't sound
appealing huh?

Definitely a problem when I go home to Kansas. There are
about five active mousers and you need to watch it when you
step barefoot on the front porch in the morning. Cold
concrete and cold crunchy corpses can wake you up like a
couple of cups of coffee. (Cheap attempt for the
alliteration award).
