It is more than theoretical. The real argument is about
whether you get a net gain after accounting for the event
that causes the adrenal response. That is going to be a case
by case thing and really can't be planned (since planning it
reduces the adrenaline). You have to have the DS instruct
the road captain to kick over or knock down the guy you want
to "boost". That is why Chris Carmichael (the World's
leading sports medical guru and Lance's only coach) planted
that cleverly camouflaged team assistant to take LA down on
the final climb last year. Lance was almost ready to give up
from the pressure when that much needed adrenaline got him
close to another minute and a stage win. Better still is he
got a simultaneous excuse for any failure should it have not
worked. No more embarrassing shuffling of the feet while
talking about maladjusted brake pads...
