TIVO

You set your TIVO for a "Seasons Pass" for the TDF, to
record the first broadcast a.m. USA on OLN only.

You avoid spoilers on RBR and resist the temptation to
listen to live feeds online during the day.

You leave work, maybe put in 35 or 40 miles, come home, make
dinner, grab a beer, and pick up your TIVO remote. You
listen to some recap and Liggett/Sherman commentary. For
these early flat stages, you hit double fast forward and
watch the race progress in a flash. You stop if there is a
crash to find out if anyone is injured or out of the race.
You triple fast forward past commercials and other inane
b.s. At 10 or 15 km to go, you watch the race at normal
speed, see how the sprint strategies develop, and sit on the
edge of your seat at the finish.

Mmmm. TIVO. Goood. --dt

Reprogram your TIVO ->| button to 30 second jump and it's
even better.

Or buy a 5040 by Replay and never even see the commercials.

Doug, do you trust the stop time that TIVO is advertising -
or do you pad by 30 minutes or more? thanks, jaime

Long stages frequently run long and maintain stages almost
always run over. Add an hour. Doesn't cost any extra. I have
it programmed for a season pass with + 1 hour. Bill

Most intelligent thing I've heard on r.b.r. in years, and I
heartily agree. If it wasn't for my TiVo, I'd have to listen
to Al and Bob in the evening, and I don't think I could take
that for 3 weeks. (Much as I like Bob Roll, him and Al are
no match for Phil and Paul.)

Regards,
H.

I also agree that TIVO has made my experience much more enjoyable, but I just don't understand AL and Bob. I know that the average sports fan might like those two better and the more storylike feel, but my Father who knows nothing about cycling complains about Al. In my view Ligget is just one of those great announcers who goes with the sport. (maybe the Euorosport guy is better, but I don't here him). I think that anyone can understand the quality of a Ligget broadcast. To be fair there is some reason to re edit the coverage for non-live action, and having new commentary is the best way to do that. Regardless, OLN is giving those of us with TIVO a lot of choice and more cycling coverage than we have a right to ask for.
