there is an interesting article about lance's ex wife in the latest issue of
runners world. it seems that since 2002 kirstin taken up running and just
recently she completed a marathon 4 days after her divorce in a very good
time of 3:48. however some people who i have talked to were not overly
impressed with her time. i quite frankly found her time to be quite
impressive. i know runners who have been at it for years and can not crack 4
hours. i would be interested in hearing from those in this group as to
whether 3:48 for a newbie marathoner is impressive or not. dave

The 'some people you have talked to' were not runners, or at
least not marathoners. A time of 3:48 for a woman's first
marathon is very impressive.

I'm impressed! That's a respectable time for anyone,
newbie or not. You go gurl! . . . How long did she train
for the marathon?

How old is she? If she's over 35, that's a Boston qualifier
or close to it, which I would think ain't too shabby for a
first attempt. And I'm not a marathoner saying it.

But to put it into perspective, there's a female member of
my club who competed in the OT marathon this year and has
run about an hour and 15 minutes faster. Whether it's good
or not depends on what your objectives are.

I agree! That is a good time for a newbie.

That time corresponds to WAVA 61% which is pretty good but
not shockingly good for a first try, at least as far as I
interpret these numbers.
