Sunday and it's JAR (Jersey Action Rider) day. Todays trip
takes us west of Philadelphia to French Creek State Park.
One of the few state parks in PA that allow MTB's. The park
is located just 20 miles below Blue Marsh (an IMBA epic
ride) and features some nasty long rocky climbs and equally
nasty rocky downhills with a little smooth woods stuff in
between (not much). We start of the ride in typical JAR
fashion with the grueling long steep climb. Lots of rocky
goodness here (I didn't get a lot of photos but the video
should be good). After reaching the top we head out of the
turtle trail. Many rocks abound but it is relatively flat
until we come to a log crossing the trail at shoulder
height. I'm short, I'll go under. Just as I prepare to
dismount I feel this very warm tingling sensation in my
right ankle, then the left, and then my knee. By now I am
starting to yell, ow ow ow! Then I look down and a swarm of
bees have decided they don't like me. I drop the bike (on my
leg giving me a nice tatoo) and begin to run through the
woods acting like Homer Simpson in the Yeti costume. All
totaled I had about 7 or 8 bee stings. The thing was I had
never been stung in my life so we didn't know if I was
allergic. I will say it was quite painful, but my throat
didn't close up. My nerves were shot at this point and my
heart rate would not go back down. I spent the next 15 miles
struggling over rocks and going very fast by downed logs
just in case. We finally take a break and mill around.

I take a longer break than most and capture this sweet
blissfull singletrack.

At that point I've gained my composure and we bomb down the
next 3 miles of DH to the parking lot.
Another eventful day.

I'm torn between saying, "Damn, that's some rotten luck!"
and "You lucky bastard, this is the *first* time you've ever
been stung by a bee????"
