If you are "under investigation" you are asked to leave the
Tour. By this standard, Lance would have been ejected and
remained off the startlist for several years. He likely
would have never qualified to come back and it would hace
destroyed the sport. Somehow I think that ASO would not
have done it to him knowing how much it would hurt ASO.
They don't give a crap about dope or anything other than
enhancing the image of ASO. That means throwing out
innocent people in some cases and in other cases assisting
in cover ups.

I have lost just about any respect I had left for ASO. I
used to think they were brilliant (and maybe those that
built the Tour in the first 90 years were) but the last 10
years have been backwards progress. They are pimps and the
cyclists are their whores.

When has LANCE been involved in a police inquiry or under
formal legal inquiry into doping? That's how ASO defines
"under investigation". I don't think journalists or Lafferty
probing your dumpster counts as being "under investigation".

Indeed. Interest in the Tour has been flagging steadily over
the last 10 years. This year I plan on showing up at Alpe
d'Huez with the camper van full of beer the morning of the
TT. They've made so much backwards progress that I'm sure
I'll find a good spot.

He was a couple of years ago. It remained open for a long
time but eventually the judge got bored and closed it. It
was a bona-fide judicial investigation though. The
investigations in Italy have dragged on so long that a few
of them remind me of the Jarndyce v Jarndyce Chancery case
in Bleak House.

The problem with this new rule is that if you are
investigation, you are considered guilty in the Tour's eyes
until you are cleared. This is not a well thought out rule.

This is more than "he said, she said" since these 2 paid a
price for the rumors. Get it now? Riders were ejected over
"suspicions". This is taking it to a whole new level. It is
one thing to investigate a rider and worry about what that
does for his reputation since that is part of the price of
justice. However, the punishment (ejection from the Tour)
has happened before any evidence was presented for them to
respond to. What can they do? Deny they are being
investigated?

This is nuts and I pity anyone that can't see why.

Uh, yeah I guess you did. Under this rule he would have been
expelled from the 2001 and 2002 Tours if not the 2000 Tour.
I can't remember the precise timing but IIRC the
investigation spanned at least 2 Tours.

It wasn't just Lance, but the whole team that was the focus
of the investigation. But of course as always, Lance drew
most of the attention.
