I brand new to cycling and have a question about the 2 types of front Der. What is the difference between a braze-on and a clamp-on.

The derailers function the same. As the names imply the clamp-on clamps around the seat tube and the braze-on mounts to a "brazed-on" fitting that is the seat tube.
