View Full Version : Disc brake question

I have a 2005 Specialized Hardrock Pro (MTB) with disc brakes and have noticed they squeak a lot. I have tried to hose them off but it does not seem to help. The one thing that does help is hitting the brakes for a second (just a light tap) and the squeak is gone momentarily. The bike is new with only about 100 miles on it so far and this is my first experience with disc brakes. Any ideas?

Thanks

they should be broken in my now.sometimes making the brakes wet make them squeak.did you touch it with your fingers or get any oil on the rotors and/or pads?

If necessary, use only water and dish detergent to wash the caliper and rotor - being sure to thoroughly rinse all soap residue from the rotor. Dry with a clean paper towel.
DISC BRAKES ARE OIL SENSITIVE! DO NOT SPRAY ANY SOLVENTS
OR LUBRICANTS IN THE VICINITY OF THE ROTORS OR
BRAKE PADS. NEVER TOUCH THE PAD SURFACE OR ROTOR
SURFACE WITH YOUR FINGERS. DOING SO WILL SIGNIFICANTLY
DEGRADE BRAKING PERFORMANCE.

It is your life that you are dealing with here. If you are not sure how to accomplish working on your brakes, bring them to a trusted professional.

Wiping the rotors with isopropyl alcohol wipes should do the trick. It will clean the surface, and evaporate with no residue.
