Shimano 600 Derailleur

Hello:

I have an 80's road frame with a Shimano 600 rear derailleur and a 14 x 22 6-speed freewheel. I'd like to replace the freewheel and need to know if I might be able to use a 7-speed in its place and whether the derailleur can accommodate a 28 tooth ring.
