Hello,

I have an old bianchi bike w/ shimano 600 parts. the levers are friction shift. I want to change it to sis. the rear wheel has 6 speeds. Does anyone have any advice. my levers are located on the bike frame. I've taken some pics of the lever, where it mounts and a picture of the lever disasembled so if anyone wants to see them i can send you them.

thanks

Greg AThe easy way is if you have a freewheel, change it to a shimano index compatible 7 speed, get sora 7 speed sti shifters from harriscyclery.com along with current shimano front and rer deraliers. More speeds involvs spreading the rear triangle,a new rear wheel and current shifters in 9 or 10 speed. If you have a 6 speed uniglide casette, it can be switched out for a 7 speed uniglide if you can find one.

I was hoping that there was a sis shifter that fit directly onto the post that my old friction type lever fit on to

greg aSorry read sis as STI. there are SIS index shifters that mount on the frame bosses. There are also harder to find clamp on types. You will also neeed a sis RD. Try www.loosescrews.com for the shifters as well as ebay. Cog spacing isn't the same, but close enough that 7 speed ones will also usually work.

I puchased a pair of tube mounted shimano sis levers. they are sis and for 6speed. I was so happy to have found these at the bike shop. however when i got home and was ready to install them i found out that the mountimg area was different, the shifters i bought had a larger bolt also.

Guess pictures would help. Why not just take the whole thing to a good bike shop so someone can actually look at it and sort it out?

I have pictures of the mounting surface if your curious, i can email them to you. my email address is 99cmr366hotmail.com Just remove the 99 infront of the address. I also have installing instructions that show 2 different mounting surface types or bosses as you've referred to it
