The MD diet is also high in unrefined carbs expecially soups with
different kind of beans and whole cereals (barley, oat and millet)
The MD diet is rich in fish but very low in meat and expecially fatty
meats so the majority of fats are fatty fruits and fish
It's surely not a high-fat diet nor a low carb one
The macronutrient ratios of a MD diet are usually
30/15/55 fat, protein, carbs
Mind you, MD diet is the specific Greek diet of certain rural areas
Standard italian diet however is even worse than US diet: lots of trans
fatty acids, lots of grilled/burned meats, few veggies and fruits, tons
of refined carbohydrates especially white pasta and white flour and not
much fish
