Night Time Cycling

For the past few weeks my friend and I have become fond of cycling in town after the hours of midnight. Do any of you enjoy this strange pastime? (We use lights, so don't get on my tits)

never done it before, it is getting down to 30-40 degrees a night where i live and thats a little to cold.

Can't say I have but it's a pretty good idea. There'd be absolutely no traffic would there? Nothing better than going down a hill flat out in the dark. (With lights)

True, there is no traffic so you can pretty much go down the middle of the road. My top speed at night is a paltry 32 mph. Not enough i think

i do it with some friends in the summer. very relaxing, chilly wind blowing in your face while going down the middle of the road. nothing like it is more refreshing :)

I have done it and I must say it is a lot better than riding durning the day. I am getting together a group of ppl who would like to ride at night here in Napa,Ca I have a 40+ mile loop that involes little or no traffic. (Lights required)

Riding at night is a little do dangerous for me. I try to always be home shortly after the sun sets. Training benefits of what may add to a few hours in the dark per week extending my rides past sundown isn't worth the huge risk of injury, or worse.

This winter, i have been cycling in theevenings a bit, in about 1 opr 2 degrees (30's) and i was perfectly warm, sometimes sweating at the end of it! I was wearing a windproof/waterproof jacket, and jeans, it's fine.

yes! night riding is awsome! it feels faster, there are less cars, and it's quiet. plus your old route isn't as boring at night.

cars even give me twice the room as during the day, probally because they are freaked out seeing a biker at night.

I have been night riding for a long time and in -15 celcuis and I don't have a problem I also play basketball so I use biking as a workout and the cars give you so much room it is incredible riding down the center of the road free and wild

I WAS a big fan of it but i'd go by myself (i hardly have any cycling friends :( ), but one day with no lights due to them braking i went out at around 11pm at night. I got hit by a car at around 50 km/hr, teh car just hit my leg but i didn't fall of the bike. I just stood there with what i thought was a broken leg. X-rays after it was proven they were just to be bruises. Since, then i have gone back to indoor spinning....ohh the insanity.

I did night mountain biking last Fall with a trail light and it was fun. It forces you to slow down and enjoy the ride as opposed to hard riding that one usually does during training. You see some different animals at night too. There is no possibility of getting hit by a car when night mountain biking but there are always those deer.

I am winter cycling right now. I have not yet combine the night and winter cycling. I don't think I could handle the snow and dark together (too dangerous) and the coyotes sound hungry in the winter :^).

We held a midnight to morning race once. It was 6 hours. I love the night, but the morning hours when it's kinda hazy out and the sun is just barely rising is my favorite time. But yeah, I do ALOT of nighttime riding with my friends. screw lights, we have lights lining the streets. I have good eyes and ears too, so don't worry.

I'll be your cycling friend, of course, I can't meet up to go riding. Start a team, like I did for BMX road racing.

the only bad thing about riding in the DARK night, is you can get flying bugs in your face.....

The worst time for bugs is at sunset! Not in the middle of the night, well at least for me. The past month or so I'd wake up on Fridays at just before 2am and go cycling for a couple of hours before Church. (Here in the UAE the week is different from the Western world- Friday is like Sunday)

But night riding is so cool ya, here the temperature is wonderful. During summer at around 3am its about 34 degrees. PERFECT!
