I have a trek 1200 with 700 wheels. Is there any kind of knobbly tires out there for fowl weather conditions.
Is it a good idea or totaly stupid idea to fit 650's on their to give more clearence for bigger fatter tires that will be better for winter/slightly rugged conditions similer to cyclo-x type stuff?
Sorry if this is like the stupidest question in the world but I know all you cycle junkies enjoy giving advice.
Cheers

CheersForget 650s.The frame is not made for it.In most cases, you won't be able to use anything bigger than a standard 28mm road tyre.
Hi,
Unless you are planning on riding in thick mud forget knobby tyres altogether.
Stay with your 700c wheels. Forget 650c this is for time trial applications and is of no use in other forms of cycling and is in general a disadvantage.
Believe it or not.... on wet roads or any other kind of sealed surface slicks are best. The tread does nothing at all on a bike tyre except slow you down a bit and make the tyre wear out faster. Manufacturers put tread on tyres because everybody thinks its better, they save on rubber and it also makes them wear more quickly so they can sell you another one. Use Continental, Michelin, or Vittoria. Continental make a cold weather/training tyre called four seasons which may be good for you. I use conti GP3000 and Force Attack for racing and they are great. I like Vittoria Rubino Kevlar for training because they are cheaper, strong enough and with almost no tread.
Fowl weather eh??? someone must have left the chooks out.
Good Luck Jay.
What a helpfull bunch. Seems like it was a totally stupid idea from me then eh... thanks peeps
