Wish List?
View Full Version : Wish List?
Suppose you've decided that your Marin Larkspur is fine for now, and instead of buying a new bike you're going to spend, I don't know, $300-$500 on gear, apparel, tools, whatever. What would you buy?
If this is to help you figure out what to consider upgrading, my answer probably isnt going to help you, since your pedals are probably fine too. However, just speaking for myself, I'd get a pair of LOOK KEO pedals. :D

Agreed, upgrade your pedals. I prefer Speedplays myself, but that's an entirely old thread that's been hammered to death. Someone once told me if everything is working, don't mess with it. You could spend some extra money on a better wheelset, nicer carbon crank or derailleurs/shifters, or you could stock up on rear cassettes, chains, and spare parts. I guess what I'm trying to say is you're better off considering your priorities and deciding which is more important to you at this moment.
I've spent so much time at bike shops and on the internet drooling over parts that I finally had to set a rule to keep me in check. Here it is:
Will this part/upgrade/piece of equipment actually make me go faster, ride safer, or be significantly more comfortable?
If I can't answer a strong "Yes!" then it's gone. I totally understand the cool factor of new bike stuff, but man is it easy to get sucked in!
That said, I'm on board with pedals or wheels if you're looking for a real upgrade. I went with Speedplays and it was a revelation - fantastic comfort and definitely more power at the pedal. Couldn't argue with the Keos either. The American Classic 350 wheelset gives a lot of value for just a little more than your budget.
Have fun!
I have an almost identical situation, I will soon upgrade my wheels, what do you guys think of Cosmic Elites.
Full sail IPA.
New stem and handle bar. I have a used bike and the stem is too long and handlebar is too narrow. I need them desperately. So.. I was looking at Ritchey WCS stem. However, if I had $300 to kill, I would get these right now.
Stem: Deda Elementi Newton Pista – 67 degrees. 100mm at $160
Handlebar: Deda Elementi 44 cm out to out at $130
But…. the reality tells me that I have bills to pay.
