I have a specailized M1 does its job but like the new decibel. If u got the money i think the atmos and the decibel are the best bet.
Louis Garneau. And I am buying a new Louis Garneau OZZY very soon.
I just got a new one (on sale of course!). It's a Bell Ghisallo 50th anniversary edition. Seems pretty nice. I always use Bells because they seem to fit my noggin better than other brands.

I have two helmets. One is an older Specialized and the other is a Bell with a visor. Couldn't tell you what specific models they are.

To expand the thread a bit...how generic are most decent helmets in terms of fit? I too am in the market for a new helmet. Is it best to always try one on first say at a bike shop or pretty safe to order on-line? Is there a universally accepted good value helmet out there equivalent to say a B17 Brooks saddle? I also am not sure if getting a visor is a good thing...what do you guys think? I am not a competitive rider...mostly solo or group high speed touring.
Thanks,
George

Fairly generic in terms of size (range of inch or cm adjustability is typically given), but I've found that some have a better or worse shape w/in the same size for my head, making some just much more comfortable than others. I've heard lots of recommendations for Bell's Ghisallo as a good value, but I'd definitely shop around and try several on.
I tried on 2 different Louis Garneau Helmets. The OZZY in Large fit liek a dream. The T-Bone in large fit well but not nearly as nice. And I was going to go for the T-Bone through mail order. But now the OZZY will do, even though it costs a bit more.

There are round cast and oval cast helmets. So depending on the shape of your head some will fit better than others even when they are the same diameter.
Some helmets have better retention systems though. I have a Giro Monza which is a round shaped helmet but it fits my oval head more snugly than my old Specialized, which is oval cast.
The reason is that the Giro retention device comes almost round the front of my head and allows for a very snug fit, while the Specialized retention system only cradled the back of my head.
Giro Monza... the fit is better than most i've tried on. and it's not even top of the line
$20 dollar helmet from wal-mart:cool:

Sorry bout that i was flicking through a cycling mag so i didnt forget any brands. Also LG never entered my mind as we dont have them in Oz.
One thing i am curious about is the fact some teams are using Specialized helmets this year but not riding Specialized bikes.
PS some of the top of the line Giros failed our Australian Standards tests so we can only get 1 model Giro. The Rudy Project helmet also failed.Yet they pass cr@ppy cheap helmets.I cant work that one out either.

I use a Bell Ghisallo. Really nice fitting helmet, comfortable and well ventilated. It didn't pass the australian standards test either, but it was a good price and fitted my head really well. I checked with my insurance company if the helmet has to be standards approved, they said no it doesn't have to be, i don't even need to be wearing a helmet!! bit strange, my vote Bell Ghisallo!:D
I have a MET Stradivarius in yellow/silver, and a Ventura in white/Red
