Places to Ride around London

I am moving to London from Melbourne Aust for work in a couple of months. I want to get an idea of good weekend rides - likely be living in central London.
In Melbourne I usually ride with friends and the thousands who ride up and down Beach Road on Sat and Sun mornings - 60 to 100 km.
Is there a similar stretch around London where there isn't too many traffic lights and it is reasonably safe to ride.

Well there's Richmond Park here in the south west of London which is about 11km in diameter around the outside of it, no traffic lights or anything, just pure open space with tree's and a few deer!

thanks for the tip - i trust there are also some cafe's about for a coffee, bite, and relax afterwards.
