Value for Money Road Bike???
I am looking at buying myself a new road bike and was wondering what was the best value for money for bikes in the R8000 to R10000 range?
To me it seems the best bet at this stage is a Raleigh RC6000 - which comes complete with 105 and Shimano WH550 wheelset.
Does anyone know of any down sides to this bike?
I am currently working up in Malawi so dont have ages to shop around when I get down to South Africa.

I bought the Raleigh RC6000 in May this year. Have had 8000 kms out of it since then and only had to replace the groupset at 7500 kms. The wheels held up to whatever potholes I didn't see! It's a great bike - best value for money (in my humble opinion!)
PS: You are in Malawi - do you know Billy and Debbie le Roux by any chance (also cyclists)?

Thanks for your reply Alida - I must say the Raleigh looks like a good bet
Sounds like you have done some serious mileage on yours
Havent bumped into Billy and Debbie yet - but always looking out for other people in Malawi who are interested in cycling

Alida, I don't think you had to replace the complete groupset. Maybe just the chain and casette. If you replaced the complete groupset then threre were something seriously wrong with it in the first palce.
Ant e, look at some of the Scotts aswell. Not bad prices either.

I decided to change from Shimano to Campy - therefore not just a new chain and cassette. Cassette, chain, cranks, BB, wheels all had to change. 9 speed to 10 speed change too. There was nothing wrong with the old groupset (except that the chain and the cassette were worn out) but I wanted to upgrade to 10-speed and got a better deal on Campy.
Ant e - my husband rides a Scott and he keeps telling me that is the best bike around. Take a look there too!

Try Westdene Cycles - 011 477 5719 :(
Don't expect great service from them but they are cheap and don't settle for sticker price. You should get it atleast 15-20% cheaper then that.
For not too bad prices but great service try Linden Cycles - 011 782 7313 :)

Eddie,
You should by now have discovered the BICYCLING Magazine. They had a section called BIKE BUYER'S GUIDE in their December 2005 issue with over 600 bike makes ranging from R85000n to R2100. I am hanging on to this one.
