I'm from Nashville, TN, USA and work as an environmental engineer. Between time as a Dad to 2 daughters  (soccer dad, dance dad) I really have to struggle to find riding time. I however manage to get 2-3 rides per week in, about 50-70 miles total. That should improve though as my girlfriend recently bought her first road bike and can't believe how much nicer it is to ride on the roads w/ that vs. her mtn. bike.

Hello everyone! Well, after watching the boys go up Mont Ventoux yesterday, I was amazed to see them suffer so much! I decided to post this pic of me after I had reached the summit of the Mont, and that without a support vehicle! From base to summit took me about 43 minutes. There was abit of a head wind that day, so please pardon the state my hair is in. The clever lot among you would of noticed my new design cycling shoes. No need to unclip, I just pull my feet out!

Gday all,

I'm from Perth, Australia. I am a student at UWA doing a Law/Commerce double degree, but have deferred for this semester.

Just found this site while looking for some info on cycling. I am relatively new to the whole scene. The most I have done is a little bit of cross training for some other sports. Since then I have had some pretty serious injuries which have put me out of a career in another sport. After moping around the house for a year or so, my uncle has finally got to me (he is VP of Cycling Australia, maybe some of you know him?).

Anyway, the other day I dusted off the old road bike and took it for a spin. It's great to be back and doing something! The 105 components are horrible though, and the frame is a little small, so I'm moving up.

I am keen to get in to some competitive cycling. Are there any yard sticks you guys can throw up to tell me where I have to be in regards to what level would be suitable. I have heaps of spare time at the moment, and am really clocking up some km's. I'm really hanging out to get a new set of wheels  ;D

Been reading the threads for a few days and noticed someone mentioning a lack of activity.  Thought I'd join to add some weight.

I'm from Johannesburg, a derivatives trader, been an off and on Mountain Biker and about to add to the wasted money by buying a road bike.  Got a bet on with friends for the 94.7.

Welcome Kangz & Rhodent!

Kangz, better you post in the Training Forum. You'll probably get a better response there.
Rhodent, 94.7, eh? Better get training!

I thought I'd better reintroduce myself since I've been away for a while. When I was here last there were something like 60 members and the record for the most users online was 9 LOL ;D. I commented about us SAfricans taking over the site then. I had no idea!!! Unfortunately - or fortunately - this prophesy from my earlier post in this thread also came true:

I'm a Data Manager (satellite geology stuff and GIS software support) but may not be for long... retrenchments and all that :(
I live in sunny SA in Kempton Park (don't laugh because your mother dresses you funny too) which is near Jo'burg airport. I've been cycling for 8 years, introduced to the sport by a good friend of Eldron's. [/siz]

I've been running my own graphic design business and doing some painting. There's a seperate thread about that though. I found some time to be on the net this weekend and thought I'd pop in for a quick look at about 17h00. Well, it's 04h00 and I'm still here  lol having fun (good thing I can sleep in tomorrow).

Came as quite a surprise that I'm a team leader. Well, I havn't being much of a leader but now that I'm back I'll be around a lot more.

We made you a team leader in about feb this year, around the time you stopped visiting the site. I figured you were dead, but I guess your not  ;)

Egads man you're giving my identity away! Next you'll be teaching everyone the secret handshake and explaining why the answer to the universe is 42 (hopefully we have some Douglas Adams fans in the house).

See you in 20 days Sean - my seat is booked and it's time to say a hearty fare thee well to mud island (aka the UK).

Wheeew, :o no nothing that drastic. Fortunately just a missing net connection.

Well, you gave your e-mail address away in the thread about looking for a hot chick on a beige/brown Fondriest. ;D

I look forward to riding with you soon.

Sean mate, we all thought you were a gonner! From the user with the most posts the one day to a vanishing act the next! Welcome back! Saddend to hear about the job, it sucks (I know)! Good luck with the new venture.

Now, where were we the last time around? Oh yes, discussing the theory that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the universe is for and why it is here, it would instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. ;)

I was pretty a prolific poster wasn't I? LOL
Sorry about leaving like that  :-/.

What happened was that I was supposed to leave work at the end of December. About half way through December they told me I was not going to be paid out for my leave at all. Which meant I had already lost 3 days  >:(. So I literally packed my things and walked out.
