I am in the same boat. I went ten years without any aerobic exercise to speak of. Now as I try to increase my mileage I seem to find a new tendon to strain each time. At 42 I think I need to stress a stretching/strengthining campain much more than when I was young.

Howdy all :)
A relatively newbie cyclist, nearly 19 and only road for fun as a kid.
I've just turned cycling mad myself. Only started last week on my new road bike, so I only manage 20-30km rides.

Howdy,
Im a former amateur roadie turned into a medical student. I hail from Texas, but now I am in Kansas City. It looks like I may do some cross this fall, but my delusions of turning pro have since subsided.
I love to talk about the pro road scene!

I live in Bedfordshire, one of the flatest counties in the UK!! We have to ride 17 miles to even find a decent hill.
My 3 mates have emmigrated so am now training on my own, doing up to about 60 miles a week (not much) and strangely enough, mostly on the flat. Have just opened my own shop though so will be cycling the 22m there and back a few times a week soon.

I', no in market research, this has got to be the most boring job in the world. I plan on becoming a pro racer.....but I think that is one plan that will not push through!

After registering, a link brought me here to introduce myself.
Anywho, I'm from South Carolina in the U.S., 34 years old and have just brought the mean IQ on the site down quite substantially.
Happy to find you.

Just joined the forums!
33 yr old male living in Northern Virginia.
Voice/Data Installation Technician by trade.
Cyclist, Home Brewer, Traditional Archer, Blues Musician, Living History Buff by addiction.
Was obsessively into biking back in college but didn't keep up with it after marriage and subsequent divorce
Now I'm answering the call of the road once again out of fun and also necessity (my car died!)
Currently riding an old Murray 12 speed the neighbors were throwing away. Nursed it back to health after years of neglect.
It is repaying me by getting me to work and back each day some 20 odd miles each way, uphill in the morning, downhill to home for the most part. It's so much harder now than it used to be, sometimes I feel ashamed to have let myself slip so far. Those feeling disappear though when I realize I'm actually getting better, "I made it! I didn't freaking die! Damn that was actually fun!" And I am certain that cycling will save my life, seeing as how all those sedentary years {and fine high gravity beers} left me with a spare tire fit for a Peterbuilt. Hope to upgrade bikes once my abilities once again warrant it, but for now the old junker is all right by me.
Originally, I hail from Mississippi, the land of Faulkner, as you can probably tell from this rather long winded introduction. Sorry about that, I just type as I think, and what happens happens.

I'm from New Orleans (yeah, don't laugh hehe) but now live in the San Antonio/Austin area of Texas (about 5 years now).
I'm the IT Director for a land-title insurance underwriter.
I'm a guitarist (17 years, used to teach for a living), drummer (hobby), into cars, motorcycles, R/C cars (gas on-road), hiking/mountaineering and probably spend way too much time playing games on my PC and Xbox. ;)
Ok, so I'm 34 yr old kid. :D

I am new to the group and bike racing. I am from Louiville, Kentucky. I have riden in South Africa, England, Canada, and Germany. My job takes me all over the place.
I won my first criterium last week and am trying to figure out how I can find great places to ride when I travel. Looks like cyclingforums.com could be a good place to start.

Hey a new memeber here, from Oak Creek WI, the weather is finally getting nice and should be able to regularly get out and ride. I am out of shape, but love to ride. Most touring around or participate in organized rides of 40 mi or less on weekends. During the week I can get out 3 -4 times a week for a 10 mile ride.

Reminds me of the time I got Mono, or some sort of nasty virus in college. I was totally wiped out. Lost 15 lbs in a week and was very weak.
I biked to work and back over some fine Kentucky hills -- It was late summer and the weather was superb.
Each hill was an accomplishment and it slowly brought me back from the brink, so to speak.
Now I am a bit older and like you have enjoyed the fruit of the vine and the gifts of hops that those of a certain age can appreciate. I look to biking to come to my aid yet again.
Faulkner is an excellent writer.
Where in Kentucky. I am a Lexingtonian, but have been removed from the bluegrass for many years now.

I got my BA from WKU in Bowling Green. We had some epic rides along the Barren River. One in particular stands out -- I was a Sigma Nu, so we would end up at the Frat House afterwards. Great times.
Dated a 'cheerleader' for a year and a half from UK. So I was up in Lexington -- every weekend sometimes -- for more exercise.
Born in Spfld, IL -- see that you are from IL -- also lived on Chicago's North Side for 5 years. Lake Michigan has some nice riding.

Never got to ride out in western KY, beautiful out there. I live in Deerfield now. Some good riding not to far out, but as I am sure you remember awfully flat. I am afraid that I have to scold you a bit however. I was always taught never to call my fraternity a frat, after all, you would not call your country a ... well you know.

I like to swim justfor the fun of it. I also like to wear the skimpiest suit that I have. I feel more free in the water wearing less.
