I am from Albany, NY here in the U.S. I ride 125 - 175 miles every week although I did finallly have to admit defeat when the temperature got down into the twenties last week. If the temperature is above freezing, though, I'm out there. :-) Up until now I have only ever ridden recreationally but I plan to start racing in the spring.
Cheers All,

G'day Coquijontas, Mate you've also hit the nail on the head with your reason to ride "A BIKE".
"HEALTH" "ENJOYMENT" and "FUN" if there wasn't that to be had noone would ride one of these contraptions anyway.
There is of course, another reason, you don't have to be mad to ride a bike, but it sure does help if you are?
Have a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year too.
Keep the wheels in motion and don't look back, unless it's to see who you dropped on that last climb?TBC :D

Thanks a lot for the encouragement, guys. Mine was an easy decision to be honest with you. I wanted to start at the lowest level and there were only three choices: TREK 1000, Giant OCR3, and a Specialized that I can't remember its model of. So, I went with the TREK because I rode it, and it was pretty comfortable.
I'm sure a better bike helps one at a certain level, but where I am right now, I doubt that it would make such a significant difference that I would wanna spend an extra $500 or more.
So far; my only problem with riding my bike is the fact that I am still kind of hesitant of speeding downhill because I mainly ride it on the roads, where there is a lot of traffic and am still afraid. But, I only have 100 miles on my bike, so I'm assuming it will go away pretty soon. Or at least I hope so...
Glad to be here..
Oytun
G'day Oytun, You are not alone with your concern, we all have to live with the threat of the Tin Top's and the "IDIOTS" who drive them. :(
However don't be put off by it, as long as you stay allert, wear a "GOOD QUALITY" Head Protector, put your trust in Your "GOD" whoever you see him to be, then all will be OK believe me, I never leave home without him on my shoulder. ;)
Keep the wheels in motion, and don't look back unless it's to see who you dropped on the last climb? TBC :D

I'm from West Yorkshire, in the UK. I'm as near as 17, a 6th form student studying A-levels and I ride a stock GT Avalanche with aftermarket diatech anchor hydro discs, deore/mavic wheel set and spram attack shifters. It's not up there with some of you guys, but it does me and my student budget just fine :D

I'm from Baltimore, Md. Just retired this year from social work. Am just getting back into riding after twenty years. Really out of shape. Have been riding a 17 year old Mountain bike my son gave me. With twenty six by 1 1/2 inch road tires. He fixed it up for me; but, the cockpits a little too small; and, it has flat handle bars. Also wanted bigger wheels. Just got a Cannondale Adventure that I think will fit me better and ride a little easier for the condition (POOR) I'm in now. :)

G'day David, I started to write this a few minutes back, however, for whatever reason the PC decided to do it's own thing and shut the site down?
What I originally said or wrote was that you have at least made a start, just take it easy and the fitness will come with a bit of perseverence. Don't bust any valves trying to do too much at first, get the bike set up properly which is essential, then get into a disciplined regime of diet and exercise and by summer you should begin to feel like taking on the world?
Good luck and keep the wheels in motion.TBC :D

I'm from Addison, Illinois which is just outside of Chicago. I'm thinking about giving a USS recumbent a go. I've been browsing about on the net to see what's what and found this site. Seeing as I'm new to them I'd like to find a used recumbent, but am opened to any help, recommendations and/or advise.

Hi All!
I'll start off by wishing you a happy festive season.
I am a south african living in london. used to spend over 20hrs a week in the saddle, now mainly cycle to commute with the occasional long'ish ride. I work for a leading software company and commute right thru the year which is about 26miles/day.
I have just sold my beloved colnago and decided to custom build a new bike. I do have a cannondale R2000 to use until i finish my project.
So i bought a new Specilized SWorks frame/fork. I am thinking of Kysriums SSL's as a wheel set, is this a good idea?
has anyone got any recommendations for other components that i may want to consider? ideas for stems/bars/cranks/chains or anything would be appreciated!
thanks all,
Glewis333

I'm from San Luis Obispo CA, midway between San Francisco and L.A. I am a history teacher, and part-time librarian. Been a bike rider on and off for 25 years. After a year off I'm getting back into riding. To motivate me I' m training for the Solvang Century in March. Have done self guided tours of Oregon coast, San Juan Islands WA, Crater Lake OR, and San Luis Obispo to Santa Barbara CA. Just got a new Trek 1500 and I'm waiting for the rain to stop to get out in the country and ride.
