Shimano 7speed shifters

View Full Version : Shimano 7speed shifters

I have an old Cannondale with Shimano 600 friction shifters on the downtube. I was recently trying to replace them with a pair of Ultegra 7 speed index shift levers and ran into a problem. I am wondering if anybody had a solution. The first piece of hardware on the index shifters that goes next to the frame (don't know the name of the part but it is chrome plated) is concave to fit next to the downtube. This part on the old friction shifters is thinner and flat and fits flush with piece made onto the bike. I don't know if this is something unique to Cannondale or not, or if you can purchase the thinner piece which will work with index shifters. The old part is slightly different (other than being thinner and flat) than the part for the index shifters, and it will not work with the newer levers.

If you have any answers, I'd appreciate the help.

Thanks!

Are you going STI or staying with the downtube shifters?
Dose your Cannondale have oversize tubes, I think it should. That is most likely the cuase of the problem. Most of the frame use the same size down

This got answered somewhere else. You need a 'flat adapter'(not concave) that was made to be used with cdale and some other fattube frames.Try www.loosescrews.com
