Swapping cogs between Shimano Cassettes

Can I swap cogs between various Shimano cassettes? I have an 8 sp Tiagra cassette and I'd like to get a 34T cog on it. Can I mix/match among other Shimano cassettes, in particular the MTB ones. How about other brands like Campo etc?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help.Yes. I've taken the rivets out of two different 9-speed HG-50 cassettes (Tiagra/Deore grade) to make my own custom cassette. One was an 11/32 MBT and the other was 12/25 road. Worked pretty well actually. Some of the ramps don't line up perfectly but it hasn't caused any shifting problems.

I wouldn't recommend swapping around 8 speed cogs with 9 speed cogs. Their thicknesses are slightly different.

I don't know about using Shimano and Campy cogs interchangably. It may work it may not I don't know. It's not an option I would entertain though.

A 34t cog may not clear the rear derailleur unless it's an MTB. If it's a road der the larges you will probably be able to use successfully is a 27 or 28.

It's no go,square peg in round hole type senario.

I have used Sram and Shimano cogs individually on my race rigs for years. It allows a lot more variability in gearing than stock, not to mention much more thorough maintenance.
I have not dealt with campy so I will not venture on that one.
