Hi guys,

I reckon ebay needs a translation tool, so you can get the full, honest account of the condition of something.

An example, in an auction for a set of Campy ergos: "Levers will be supplied with aftermarket gear and brake cable set.". From bitter experience with Shimano cables stuck in a Campy downtube shifter, I think the seller really means: "Levers will be supplied with aftermarket gear and brake cable set, as the ends on the aftermarket cables are larger than those on Campy ones, so they're irretrievably stuck in the levers."

Anyone else have good examples of ebay "half truths"?

Cheers,

Suzy

i saw a funny one today on the US ebay. It was for a 10 speed campag cassette and the title was "10 speed cassette: used: gentle 1500 miles".

Do you think it was only used by an old lady to ride to church and back on a sunday morning?

I almost had a ripper recently. I bought a HAC4 cycling computer from the US on eBay. I assumed that like almost all cycling computers, you could switch it from miles to kms on the unit itself. The ad said that it was a US version, which triggered me to double check. Emailed the seller, and sure enough, the HAC4 is either in miles or kms. Turns out he has a metric version, so I'm all set (phew :o ). The guy was great, so I'm sure I would have been ok to return it, but at least this saved the postage and hassle, not to mention the dissappointment factor when I opened it.
