Replacement Chamois question

Hi,

I bought some Blackburn replacement chamois for my cycling shorts. I have replaced chamois in the
past and have no problem with the sewing, etc..

These chamois have no padding. All of the others I have done in the past had padding sewn to
the backside.

Do these require padding? Is it a preference item?
